May 28: Space City Comic Con

Yesterday after I finished work I headed to Space City Comic Con to meet up with my Dad and brother and sister. It was my dad's first time in one of these kinds of conventions. (ithink)

We went into a panel for Alex Kingston, who played river song in Doctor who and was also in ER. It was kind of funny when she wouldn't know some episode names or an actor's name and the panel immediately knew what she was talking about. One little girl asked her if she was afraid of the weeping angels, one of the villains of the show. Alex Kingston said that the fact that the weeping angels were trained ballerinas made them less frightening to her which I never really thought about until today.

After the panel, we headed to the main floor to look at the vendors and artists and celebrities. We saw charlie hunnam and kim coates hanging out signing things, alex kingston and colin baker, and probably the most casual was Sam Jones, who played the titular character Flash Gordon. My dad was super excited and got star struck when he got up to meet with Sam Jones, who tried having a conversation with my dad, but he was so dazzled that the only thing he really said was that he saw the Flash Gordon movie in theaters when he was 14, which I thought was really cute. We got an autograph, a group picture, and my dad got a picture with Sam Jones by himself and put his arm around Sam Jones' waist,                                                                                     which amused me very much so.

My sister wanted one of those cute fuzzy alpacas which weren't too bad of a price, but we instead got some patches and posters and I bought a little bean bag bird which is hanging in my car right now. My siblings and I bought these back to the future posters which all lined up to make the delorean and we split them between each other because luckily we all have different favorite movies from the trilogy so I got three, my sister got two, and my brother got the first movies poster. They also had the star wars original trilogy posters, but we are a BTTF family first and those posters belong more in a set than the BTTF ones did.

This was the tallest spock, like I swear, 6'6
AJ was so excited, childhood heroes. man

Overall, it was a pretty great day, the only thing that kind of soured it was the price of the convention tickets. 40 dollars for one day seems a bit pricey but I know how convention prices go.
